DVD review: The Crypt (2009)

Six young criminals break into hidden catacombs underneath their town and attempt to steal jewelry buried from the "Great Depression" only to find ghosts guarding the precious belongings. After being trapped in this dark maze of crypts the group tries to escape alive. The Crypt is written and directed by Craig McMahon. The acting is pretty bad and some of the cast is pretty terrible but Sandra Oh is pretty good, she plays the main character PJ and is very nice looking... :P The cast just isn´t believeable as the criminals that they are supposed to be and there is a scene in the beginning of the movie where a couple of them steals a car which is supposed to be dramatic but comes across as badly made and badly acted.. The camerawork and editing is good. The pacing is pretty good, some scenes are overlong and quickly becomes a bit repetitive but there are some good and effective scenes. The ghosts look pretty good, the make-up fx design is pretty cool. There is a bit of gore, practical make-up fx and in my opinion this film seriously needs more gore, most of the kills are to clean, too tidy. In the T & A department there is only one scene and it´s the gorgeous Sandra Oh who provides some gratuitous frontal nudity.

This review is based upon the region 1 DVD release from Triumphant Entertainment, it´s Rated R for some violence, disturbing images, language and brief nudity
Rating: 2 out of 7. It´s ok entertainment for the moment, some nice scenes but plenty of bad acting. Did I mention that Sarah Oh is very cute and smoking hot? ;)
