DVD review: The Final Sanction (1990)

Please note that this review is based upon a italian language only DVD release, it seems to be the only legit DVD release of this film, and my knowledge of italian is nil. I don´t understand a word...
The United States and Russia have had a nuclear exchange, wiping out most of humanity in the process. In order to decide a winner without any further bombing, the nations both decide to choose their best soldier, representing America is Sgt. Tom Batanic (Ted Prior) and representing Russia is Sgt. Sergei Schvackov (Robert Z´Dar), and let them fight in a restricted area in Virginia. The result of the duel will decide the winner of the war. The Final Sanction is written and directed by David A. Prior. The plot is pretty cool but not that original, Robot Jox (1989) had similar idea. Can´t comment on the dialogue for obvious reasons, but the acting isn´t very good, actually it´s pretty bad.. The camerawork and editing is decent. The pacing is a bit slow in the beginning and sadly it takes almost 40 minutes until the action kick off as Ted Prior and Robert Z´Dar go to war. The action itself is pretty good for a David A. Prior flick with lots of gunplay and explosions but it gets a bit repetitive after a while. I find it amusing that despite the fact that these men are the best America and Russia can supply they can't hit shit even though they are emptying magazines on full auto at each other at almost point blank range..
No T & A, no real gore except some burn make-up fx and a small flesh wound.

This review is based upon the region 2 DVD release from USA Home Entertainment, it´s uncut and italian language only.
Rating: 1½ out of 7. It takes too long for the action to begin but after that it´s a okay flick if you like gunplay and explosions
