DVD review: Sculpture (2009)

Haunted by dark images from a repressed past, struggling artist Ashley Steele (Raine Brown) returns to her childhood home following the death of her parents. Accepting a commission from a well-known art dealer (Alan Rowe Kelly), she enlists body-builders as models and enthusiastically embarks upon the project. However, her fragile, new-found confidence cannot withstand her brother´s obsessive behavior or her accelerating visions of childhood trauma. As close friend Emily Porter  (Misty Mundae) reaches out to help, Ashley spirals down a path of unspeakable horror, mutilation and murder. Sculpture is written by Paul Quintero, Marv Blauvelt and Pete Jacelone who also is the director. Good acting for the most part especially from Raine Brown who tormented by flashbacks of sexual abuse slowly breaks down and turns into a predator. It´s professionally shot and edited. The soundtrack is good. The pacing is a bit slow at first but it picks up it´s pace and gets gorier and sleazier. It´s gory, some of it looks good and some of it looks decent. It´s a mix of practical make-up fx and I believe that they also use some computer gendered gore. There is some T & A, courtesy of Misty Mundae but Raine Brown wears various set of underwear throughout the film. You get sex, incest and rape... It´s a pretty sleazy flick.

This review is based upon the region 1 DVD release from Camp Motion Pictures, it has not been rated.
Rating: 6½ out of 7. Sculpture is a enjoyable and quite sleazy bit of entertainment. This should please any horror fan and quite a few gorehounds.
