DVD review: Weasels Rip My Flesh (1979)

One dark night, a NASA probe returning from Venus crash lands near the wilds of Long Island and unleashes a radioactive curse upon the nearest living creature, a rabid weasel. Unbeknownst to the innocent residents, this mutating menace transforms into an invincible fiend, stalking the residents in a terrifying quest to satisfy its hunger for human flesh. Discovering that the weasel's blood possesses fantastic properties of regeneration, mad Dr. Sendam decides to use it for his own twisted purposes while an intrepid government inspector closes in fast on the bloodthirsty, furry menace. Weasels Rip My Flesh is written and directed by Nathan Schiff. The acting is bad, the camerawork and editing is painfully bad but keep in mind that it was the shot on Super 8 film when Schiff was a teenager and the picture is awful but it adds to the charm  (you can actually hear the sound of the camera rolling). The soundtrack is pretty good but I´m convinced that the music is taken from Public Domain sources.  Weasels Rip My Flesh is fast-paced (running time 67 minutes) and I found myself smiling and laughing out loud while watching it. There is gore but it´s looks horrible and very fake but keep in mind that it´s 16 year old Nathan Schiff who made the make-up fx with practically no budget. The mutated beasts looks incredibly cheesy being made of paper-mache and having paper for teeth and so on. The shots of the NASA probe on Venus just has to be seen.. But you have to admire him for the effort and imagination. No T & A in this.
This review is based upon the region all (Region 0) DVD release from Image Entertainment, it´s manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media
Rating: 0½ out of 7. I`ll admit that it´s VERY hard to put a fair rating on Weasels Rip My Flesh. I enjoyed it but is it good? Well no actually it's just a total mess . Now the question is if it´s charming? You bet! It´s fantastic fun and one of the "bad enough to be good"movies. I won´t reveal any spoilers but the ending is fantastic, it's something you just have to see for yourself. Recommended to fans of low-budget film.
